What is Flu?

The Flu, also know as Influenza is a common viral infection which effects can be mild or servere depending on the individual who has contracted this virus. The flu virus specifically attacks the lungs, nose and throat and is highly contagious.

When is Flu Season?

‘Flu season’ usually starts early in May and lasts for roughly 12 weeks, peaking in July. However, recent South African Studies have shown that certain strands of the virus starts affecting the population by as early as mid-April. Cape Town, in particular, experiences a lot of rain and cold weather during the winter month, which automatically increases Capetonians chances of contracting the Flu.

Why You Should Get Vaccinated Against Flu?

Vaccination protects you against infection and reduces the severity of symptoms should you become infected. The regular consumption of vitamins, eating healthy and keeping fit also helps the body to fight infections but Flu vaccinations are the most effective strategy to prevent contracting the virus.

Who Should Get Vaccinated?

  9. Adults and children who are family contacts of individuals at high risk of severe influenza
  10. Adults and children who are family contacts of individuals at high risk of severe influenza
  11. Any persons wishing to minimise the risk of influenza acquisition, especially in workplace settings where large-scale absenteeism could cause significant economic losses.
